Unlocking the many financial and environmental benefits of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system begins with understanding the “how” of it all. If you’ve felt in the dark about harnessing the power of the sun, you’ve come to the right place — and you’re not alone!
Take the time to go through the informational graphic below, to learn about how solar works and exactly where Sky Power Solar installs custom solar systems in the San Francisco Bay and Tri Valley area.
From Sunshine to Electricity
As the California sun rises over the horizon, it’s rays begin to hit the solar panels mounted on your roof or on the grounds of your property. Those rays are absorbed and converted to direct current (DC) power by the photovoltaic panels, and then sent to an inverter installed in your home. That inverter converts the DC electricity to home-ready alternating current (AC) power, and then fed into your home. As the sun reaches its peak, your home solar array will generate more electricity to send down the line to your home, until it starts to set in the afternoon and evening.
Your solar system will work in tandem with the power grid, so that when you are generating more energy than you are using, the excess power is fed back into the grid. Then at night when you are not harvesting the sun’s power, your home pulls electricity from the grid again.
